Which goes deeper: acupuncture or tattooing?

I'm scheduled to go for acupuncture in a desperate attempt to alleviate some of my intense pain. However, I am extremely terrified of needles to the point I need Valium for simple blood draws. Oddly though, I have five tattoos that I was completely fine with. In my head I didn't really register it as needles. But for this I am nervous as anything. Which of these goes deeper?
